If you have never heard of sophomore guard Conner Frankamp then you are with the majority. As a freshman Frankamp didn't get much playing time with Kansas, only averaging 8.3 MPG and scoring 2.5 PPG. However, in the NCAA tournament he posted his only 2 double digit scoring games against Eastern Kentucky and Stanford. Frankamp went to high school in Kansas so going to KU wasn't a shock as he was the #34 player in the class of 2013 according to rivals.com. Frankamp was upset about his playing time while at Kansas and saw Wichita St. as an opportunity to play for another good school in his home state, while still being coached by a great coach, Gregg Marshall. He also had offers from Colorado and Creighton. Frankamp grew up near Wichita as he holds the Wichita City League's scoring record. In high school he scored 2,275 points at North High and played on the under-17 USA Basketball team that won a gold medal in the 2012 FIBA World Championships. He averaged 31.1 points, 3.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds as a senior. Frankamp will still be behind 2 great guards while at Wichita as he is eligible to play after the first semester of next year. Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet will be starting over him, unless they enter the upcoming NBA draft. That doesn't discourage Frankamp though, he sees it as a chance to learn from 2 of the best in the nation. Frankamp said, "I've been very impressed with how Ron and Fred have developed as players. I think they have a good chance to get to the league." It seems that Frankamp is coming in with the right attitude. I think this is a great addition for Wichita State, as he came out of high school as a bigger star than both Baker and VanVleet. He showed flashes last year with Kansas and should keep developing under Coach Marshall. He is a scorer and that is something any team needs. Expect him to help the Shockers next year, especially if they lose their guards to the draft. Either way he will get a better chance to play while at Wichita St. and this will give him a better chance at making the NBA. An already top 10 team has just gotten stronger, keep an eye out for this kid as he may become the next great Shockers guard.
